TeleBump – Remote Monitoring for Expecting Mothers

An initiative to provide remote monitoring equipment for expecting mothers during the pandemic, ensuring that vital health metrics were tracked during telehealth appointments and enhancing maternal care.

TeleBump – Remote Monitoring for Expecting Mothers

Role: Program Manager - Allegheny Health Network Care Management and Transitional Care Module

At the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the biggest challenges in OB/GYN care was ensuring that expecting mothers could receive the appropriate prenatal monitoring without in-person visits. To address this, I collaborated with OB teams to create a process that delivered necessary monitoring equipment—such as blood pressure cuffs, thermometers, and urine analysis kits—directly to mothers' homes.

Key Steps Taken:

  • Seamless Equipment Delivery: I worked closely with DME leadership to ensure timely delivery of medical equipment to expecting mothers, ensuring all vital health metrics could still be tracked remotely during telehealth appointments.

  • Workflow Development in EPIC: Developed detailed order templates and workflows within EPIC to streamline the process for OB providers to prescribe and document the equipment, ensuring smooth insurance coverage with minimal out-of-pocket costs for patients.

  • Emergency Fund Access: We secured emergency funding to assist mothers who could not afford the equipment, ensuring that financial barriers did not prevent them from receiving care.

Impact:

  • Ensured expecting mothers could continue to receive consistent, high-quality care despite physical distancing restrictions.

  • Reduced the number of missed prenatal visits, improving maternal health outcomes during a critical time.
